Austin Ramirez’ Year in the White House Featured by AEM

Austin Ramirez reflected on his year as a White House Fellow in a profile news piece for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

Ramirez was one of 16 individuals chosen in 2016 to serve as paid, full-time staff to senior White House leaders or Cabinet-level government officials for a period of 12 months. As president and CEO of HUSCO International, Ramirez had to implement an interim leadership structure at HUSCO and transition out of seven nonprofit boards — including his board position with AEM — to fulfill this rare and prestigious leadership opportunity.

While serving as a Fellow, Ramirez had the honor of participating in once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as working on public policy, attending meetings at the United Nations in New York, landing a jet on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier, and, most importantly, observing the presidential transition from the Obama administration to the Trump administration.

“Years from now, I hope I look back at this formative time as the spark that drove me to more fully engage in issues that matter to our community and our country,” Ramirez told AEM. “It’s a responsibility we all share, and it’s one I now take more seriously than ever.”
