Gus Ramirez honored at Milwaukee Business Journal’s Corporate Citizenship Summit
For his charitable endeavors both personally and professionally, Gus Ramirez has been recognized as the 2017 Milwaukee Business Journal Corporate Citizenship of the Year.
Most recently, Gus Ramirez, executive chairman of HUSCO International, led the development of St. Augustine Preparatory Academy on Milwaukee’s south side. Aug Prep opened in the fall of 2017 and is currently providing the opportunity for 600 students to access high quality education and facilities. In the future, Ramirez hope to expand enrollment to 3,000 students.
The Ramirez family has also been involved in supporting education and social justice throughout Central America, focusing on women, children and others in need. The family has invested in more than 100 projects abroad in places like Belize, Nicaragua and Honduras.
HUSCO International was recognized by the Milwaukee Business Journal as the largest Wisconsin corporate charitable contributor in 2016 with $16.3 million in donations. For comparison, Northwestern Mutual has the second highest total, with more than $14 million, and WEC Energy Group Inc. ranked third with $13.5 million in donation. The combined support from the 32 largest firms on the list donated more than $97 million to state and local area nonprofits and causes in 2016.
